Hemp, or 'industrial hemp,' and marijuana are both members of the same plant species, 'Cannabis sativa'. Although they are the same species of plant, it does not mean they have the same spectrums of cannabinoid concentrations. Hemp and marijuana feature very different levels of common cannabinoids such as THC and CBD. Something else you might consider is wanting a plant extract that is grown organically. And sometimes not everyone wants, or can use products with the psychoactive effects of high THC levels. So pure hemp derived extracts/oils are an option for those people who can still be helped by these products, but do not want to include the THC aspect.
